49ers' offence is clicking with both running and passing games during winning streak

SANTA CLARA, Calif. One decisive 18 play drive told the story of San Francisco's successful day on offence.

The 49ers (4 2) churned out 89 yards and used up 9 1/2 minutes of clock time, from late in the third quarter to just less than seven minutes left. Kendall Hunter's 6 yard touchdown run put his team ahead of Arizona by nine points on the way to a 32 20 victory Sunday.

Vernon Davis produced a career performance with 180 yards receiving and touchdown catches of 61 and 35 yards, while Frank Gore ran for 101 yards in his second 100 yard day this year. Quarterback Coin Kaepernick found his groove again in both the running and passing games, and San Francisco looked its most balanced yet.

"We wanted to win every scorecard, every round," offensive co ordinator Greg Roman said. "Then, at the end of the game, we wanted to knock them out. But they are a tough defence. It took 60 minutes to wear them down."

And, for the second straight week, the 49ers' vaunted defence forced four turnovers leading to points. During the Niners' three game winning streak, they have forced 10 turnovers and turned them into 54 points on nine scoring drives including a pick 6 by Tramaine Brock in a 34 3 rout of the Houston Texans on Oct. 6.

"That felt good," right tackle Anthony Davis said. "We need it. Good offences are balanced. It felt productive."

Davis declined to accept the game ball for best offensive performer. Davis vowed to give it to "Kapy," as he is now referring to the QB.

"He could bequeath it to somebody else," Harbaugh said. "That's allowed."

When Hunter scored to put the 49ers ahead 29 20, safety Tyrann Mathieu threw Hunter and was flagged for a personal foul as Arizona's defence let its frustration show.

Harbaugh credited the offensive line and even the unsung plays, such as wide receiver Anquan Boldin's block as fullback Bruce Miller went up the middle for 3 yards on a fourth and 1 to sustain the long drive.

"We really start feeling good when we're moving the chains like we were doing and when we're moving the clock down, continue to hold onto the football," Miller said. "But the big thing was finishing with a touchdown to make it a two score game on them. That was huge for our defence and our team."

The reigning NFC champion Niners now begin a two week stretch leading into their bye week in which they play at Tennessee on Sunday, then travel to London Terrence Brooks Ravens Jersey to face Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium.

They're happy to be on a nice roll again after the first back to back losses of third year coach Harbaugh's tenure against Seattle and Indianapolis in Weeks 2 and 3.

"Pretty much I'll just go with the clothes on my back, my playbook, a toothbrush and a great attitude," Harbaugh said. "And we'll see if we can't encourage the rest of the guys to do the same."

And the 49ers are gearing up to get some much needed reinforcements in the mix this week.

Wideout Mario Manningham is set to return to practice after beginning the year on the physically unable to perform list for six games.

Manningham made 42 receptions for 449 yards and one touchdown in 12 games and 10 starts last season before injuring his left knee in a loss at Seattle Dec. 23. He underwent reconstructive surgery to repair torn anterior cruciate and posterior cruciate ligaments.

Boldin is eager to see what Manningham can do once back on the field.

"We've seen him the last couple of weeks, out there running around with the trainers. Running routes and stuff," Boldin said. "We're happy to get him back in the fold. Think he brings a lot of that play making ability to our offence. So we're definitely excited to get him back."

Rookie defensive tackles Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial and cornerback Eric Wright are expected to practice when the team reconvenes Tuesday.

No matter his targets, Kaepernick wants to keep this good thing going with Gore, Davis and Boldin and anybody else who can make big plays.

Notes: Harbaugh had no updates on NT Glenn Dorsey, who injured his right hamstring in the first quarter. The Niners already lost NT Ian Williams to a Timmy Jernigan Jersey season ending left ankle injury against the Seahawks on Sept. 15. "We really wouldn't talk about the possibilities, let's wait and see where we're at," Harbaugh said. . San Francisco signed OG Al Netter to the practice squad after he spent 2012 with the unit.

2013 NFL Week 14 Predictions and Picks

2013 NFL Week 14 Predictions and Picks

It's time for my 2013 NFL week 14 predictions and picks. Week 14 kicks off on Thursday with Houston in Jacksonville. Is this a game centered on future draft pick position? It certainly isn't the best of Thursday night matchups this season. Jacksonville has been awful while Houston continues to slide. I still think the Texans will escape with a win. It's downright ugly but Houston wins this one 23 17 in a game nobody watches(except for maybe portions of those television markets).

We move to Sunday where Indianapolis travels to Cincinnati. Can the Bengals hold fort against the Colts and Andrew Luck? I really think this game could be one of the better ones of the week. In the end, the Bengals come up with a big stop to defeat Indy 27 24.

Cleveland travels to New England to face the Pats. The Browns aren't going anywhere anytime soon but my gut says they'll stick around for at least a half in this one. Ultimately the Patriots win 31 17. Tom Brady fires 3 touchdown passes in the win.

Carolina is in New Orleans to face the Saints. This game has classic written all over it. Unfortunately, I think the Saints will make it a bit of an unexpected game. New Orleans turns on the jets and Drew Brees fires 3 touchdown passes in a 34 16 win.

The New York Jets host Oakland elsewhere. The Jets have been tough at home and I expect that will stay the same during week 14. Jets win 23 13. Oakland has 3 turnovers in the loss.

Philadelphia entertains Detroit in what could be a huge game for both teams down the stretch. Teddy Bridgewater Vikings Jersey My predictions and picks for this week 14 matchup? I'll take the homestanding Eagles to win a close one 34 31. Matthew Stafford and Nick Foles combine for 7 touchdown passes.

Miami heads to Pittsburgh to play the Steelers. Big Ben and Pittsburgh are playing much better and it will show this week. Roethlisberger fires 2 touchdown passes in a 27 10 victory. The Dolphins are forced into 4 turnovers in a hostile environment.

Tampa Bay hosts Buffalo. The Bucs should be able to put away the Bills in this one but it won't be until the 4th quarter. Tampa Bay wins 23 16.

Kansas City travels to Washington to play the unpredictable Redskins. I'm going upset here with Washington winning 27 24 in overtime. Robert Griffin leads the charge and helps drive the Redskins for the game tying touchdown.

Baltimore welcomes Minnesota in what could be a horribly ugly offensive game. The Ravens win 16 6. Ray Rice gathers 123 yards and a touchdown in the win. Minnesota throws 4 interceptions.

Tennessee is on the road in Denver to face the Broncos. The Titans are struggling to finish strong while the Broncos are jockeying for playoff position and potential home field advantage. Denver rolls to a 36 13 win. Peyton Manning finds Wes Welker for 2 first half touchdowns.

Arizona hosts St. Louis in other action. The Rams could potentially pull off the upset but won't. Carson Palmer tosses 3 touchdown passes in a 27 17 victory. Zac Stacy provides 86 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Rams.

The New York Giants travel to San Diego in week 14. My predictions and picks for this one? I think the Giants could potentially pull off an upset. It'll be close but I think San Diego gets just enough to squeeze out a 22 20 win. They hold off a late Giants rally with an interception in the end zone of Eli Manning.

Seattle is in San Francisco for what could be the game of the week. The 49'ers are awfully tough at home and I get the feeling they will want http://www.nfljaguarsofficialshop.com/Blake_Bortles_Jersey_Jaguars a little payback. San Francisco wins thanks to a late defensive touchdown. 49'ers win 19 16. Frank Gore contributes 87 yards and a touchdown against a very stingy Seattle defense.

Atlanta visits Green Bay in other action. The Falcons struggles on the road continue with a 33 16 loss. At this point, Atlanta is playing for draft picks. Matt Ryan sits the 2nd half out of pure frustration or wishes he would have.

The Monday night game could be the most interesting of the week 14 schedule. Dallas visits Chicago for what could be a crucial game for both teams. I'm guessing this one will be close but I expect the Bears to pull ahead when it counts at Soldier Field. Chicago escapes with a hard fought 27 24 victory. Robbie Gould hits the game winning field goal with 6 minutes to go. That's a mouthful, isn't it?Specifically I write about sports, reality television, entertainment, hot t. View profile

Revisiting My 13 Bold NFL Predictions Following Week 4Before the NFL preseason, I made 13 bold predictions for the coming season.

Bears' James Anderson now starting alongside rookies he's mentoring

Bears' James Anderson now starting alongside rookies he's mentoring

As wide at the top as they are at the bottom, overturned blue and white trash cans make perfect stand ins for linemen. They're lined up in formation now, five blocking four, after practice at the Walter Payton Center.

His arm in a sling, Bears linebacker Lance Briggs hands off the ball to a half speed running back. Linebackers Jon Bostic, Khaseem Greene and Larry Grant slide between the cans, stopping the run. Among them, only Bostic has played more than one defensive snap this season. Williams, out for the year with a torn pectoral muscle, were hurt.

A healthy James Anderson, the last veteran standing, watches intently from behind the defense. On Monday in Green Bay, the strong side linebacker will start alongside rookies Bostic and Greene. He will call the plays, a role he once held with the Carolina Panthers. ''Now I'm the old old guy.''

Anderson pulled into Halas Hall at 6:15 on Thursday morning.

At defensive coordinator Mel Tucker's urging, the team's veteran linebackers spent the week tutoring Bostic and Greene.

''I spend time talking with them if they have different questions, giving them coaching points, giving them little tips and keys to look at during the plays," said Anderson, a 2006 third round pick. ''The better they play, the better we do.''

In practice this week, Anderson called out another linebacker's blown coverage and covered his running back mid play.

''He's a genius, man,'' said Greene, who committed a 15 yard personal foul against the Washington Redskins in his only defensive snap. ''He's a teacher.''

Anderson self identified as a football ''nerd,'' and Greene agreed.

''To know you have somebody Women's Tre Mason Jersey out on the field that can direct you when you may need it .." Greene said. ''If there's something that a coach misses, he sees it. Nothing gets past James.''

Helping young players was one reason the Bears signed Anderson to a one year, $1.25 million deal in March. Before the Panthers released him, he tutored Luke Kuechly, the 2012 defensive rookie of the year.

Anderson knows how the rookies feel. In his second year, he started one game at middle linebacker a position he'd never played, even in peewee football.

''He's very articulate, so he understands the 'why' of the game," Tucker said. ''And if you understand why, then you can explain it, and he can teach it. It's one thing to know how to do it. It's another thing to be able to teach someone else how to do it.''

It's hard to use oil paints in a Chicago condo.

Back home in North Carolina, Anderson would put on music and lose himself in front of a canvas. A studio art major at Virginia Tech, he www.ramsauthenticofficial.com/Michael_Sam_Jersey_Rams has sold his abstract works and figures he'll return to painting when he goes home in the offseason.

Brett Favre Retires for now

Brett Favre Retires for now

Brett Favre has announced today that he will not be returning to the Vikings next season. Yes this is big news, but let just say we been here before. The result of being boy who cried retiring is that no one will take you seriously. As Packers linebacker Nick Barnett said of the news, "It's like believing in Santa Claus. You get gifts, but you ain't seen Santa Claus," he said. "We'll see Greg Robinson Authentic Jersey what happens If he does retire, congratulations. It's a well deserved retirement. But if he does come back, we'll be gunning for him the same way."

I sure most of the NFL and the entire country feels this same way. This time, however, I inclined to believe Brett. Unlike last off season, Favre is coming off a great season. He threw 33 TDs and only 7 ints, (as opposed to his previous year with the Jets when he led the league in picks) and he led the Vikings all the way to the NFC Championship Game. Granted he single handedly cost them a trip to the Super Bowl with his egregious late 4th quarter pick, but I think he reached a level last year that set the bar awfully high. I don think he can be anywhere near as good as he was last season, and I think Brett realizes this too. Everyone likes to go out on a high note. At times it seems unlikely that Favre cares an awful lot about his credibility, but surely ramsauthenticofficial.com/Aaron_Donald_Jersey_Rams he knows that backing out of retirement for a third consecutive year would create a public backlash that even he could not recover from.

In the end, this move is the best thing for the Vikings as well. It quite unlikely that Sage Rosenfels or Tavaris Jackson will be able to equal Favre 2009 output, but this closure lets the Vikings move on and look towards the future. It never a good situation to be strung along and wondering each year if it will be your quarterback last. The Vikings need someone for the long haul who can be the facilitator to all of the great talent around him.

He ran deep routes earlier this season, either failing to get open, drawing interference flags or having a long TD catch erased by an unrelated blocking penalty. He got his return touchdown on another odd decision one that panned out for a change, with nobody drawing a blocking penalty. The only revelation in this game was the simple crossing route the Colts failed to cover, allowing Austin to keep running after the catch. It was the same old same Women's Johnny Manziel Jersey old, except with much better luck to Tavon.)What Clemens did looks pretty good when compared to some of the carnage around the NFL:Somebody named Scott Tolzien is now starting for the Packers, after the demise of Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) and Seneca Wallace (groin). Tolzien went 24 of 39 for 280 yards and two interceptions. The Packers are going to audition the Ghost of Matt Flynn today.Terrelle Pryor completed just 11 of 26 passes for 122 yards for the Raiders as they http://www.brownsnflofficialonline.com/Justin_Gilbert_Jersey_Browns fell to the Giants. He also suffered four sacks, threw an interception and lost a fumble. Afterward, Pryor told reporters he has been playing with a sprained MCL in his right knee. He passed for 274 yards and two touchdowns with a last second, 51 yard "Hail Mary" TD pass cleaning up those stats but he suffered five sacks and three interceptions. That was his second consecutive game with three INTs.Not only did the Titans lose to the previously winless Jaguars, they also lost Jake Locker to what could be a season ending foot injury. Locker completed just four of nine passes for 27 yards and an interception before yielding to former Rams back up Ryan Fitzpatrick.Remember when Colin Kaepernick was the prototype NFL quarterback? That was last year. Sunday he suffered six more sacks as the 49ers passed for just 91 yards against the swarming Panthers. Those are Keith Null numbers.Remember when Cam Newton was the prototype NFL quarterback before Kaepernick was the prototype? That was a couple of years ago. Newton completed 16 of 32 passes for 169 yards, one interception and four sacks as the Panthers edged the 49ers. Those are Kyle Boller numbers.Last week a groin muscle injury shelved Jay Cutler. This week he suffered an ankle injury as the Bears lost to the Lions. Cutler was just so so before bowing out, completing 21 of 40 passes for 250 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Josh McCown is his stand in. Manuel returned to active duty for the Bills after missing the last month with a sprained knee. His return was inauspicious: He completed 22 of 39 passes for just 155 yards, one TD, one interception and three sacks during a 23 10 loss to the Steelers.Oh, and Peyton Manning needed a MRI after hobbling out of Sunday's shootout with San Diego with a knee injury. Brock Osweiler is his back up, in case you were wondering. So maybe Jeff Fisher and Les Snead aren't guilty of gross negligence after all.MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSEQuestions to ponder while wondering if Brian Quick can draw inspiration from Austin's breakout:Why would an LSU fan dance like a dinosaur after his team scored? Is it OK for the retiring president at the University of Michigan to get into the jar while watching the game?Just how desperate is the Packers quarterback situation?Since when is it wrong to get real with your struggling college football team?QUIPS 'R USHere is what some of America's leading sports pundits have been writing:Mike Tanier, Sports on Earth: "What just happened? It's a question we ask about 50 times per NFL Sunday. Green really catch that? Week 10 was particularly shocking, for a variety of reasons (the Jaguars won), from stunning Hail Mary passes (the Jaguars won!) to bone headed overtime decisions (the Jaguars won!!), lopsided upsets (the Jaguars won!!!), mystery quarterbacks (THE), defensive duels with surprising outcomes (JAGS), and out of character performances by players and teams. St. Louis dismantling the Colts (6 3) in a 38 8 blowout was as stunning as any result we've seen this season, as Rams rookie receiver return man Tavon Austin scored three long touchdowns and finally turned into the playmaker St. Louis (4 6) thought it drafted. Austin had a scintillating 98 yard punt return score, and added two receptions for 138 yards, with touchdowns of 57 and 81 yards. In an 11 minute stretch from the second quarter to the beginning of the third, Austin gashed the Colts with a 98 yard punt return touchdown, a 57 yard touchdown on a sideline bomb and an 81 yard catch and run score on a crossing route. By the time Austin had produced 31 of the greatest all purpose minutes in league history, the Colts were dead in the water, facing a 35 point deficit early in the third quarter."
